How you do anything is how you do everything. Something I had to share because I truly believe our company wouldn’t be as successful and grown so much if I wasn’t also challenging myself personally. It’s not a coincidence that after a year of new adventures that we found our niche as a company and are laser focused on what works for us.Every person has strengths, weaknesses and it’s all about working within your natural talents. I hate running, always have. Besides golf the only exercise/diet I’ve been consistent at was quitting. So while looking for something for my son I came across parkour/ninja warrior at 5 Star in East Rockaway. I’ve been doing it for almost a year and working on some of the most complex movements I’ve ever imagined. Until my fat ass tried to just hang on a bar for more than 10 seconds and my shoulders felt like I did a cross atlantic swim I had no idea the toll 10 years of midnights, sitting in a patrol car for hours had on me. Most of us have seen ninja warrior and they make it look effortless. This far in and I think I made it just enough to call myself a beginner.

I consider myself like Tony Hawk, not that I’m good, just that I’m old. I started in a sport dominated by kids, that most adults over 30 don’t even understand all while coming off an ankle and elbow surgery. I thought I was destined to be a professional power walker and shake weight enthusiast. Now volleyball, sports etc I would do all day but with any formal exercise I used to stare at my watch and count the minutes until it was over. And that’s the difference when you find something you are passionate about. Now I have to set an alarm to remind myself to go back home. When I tried to explain to my podiatrist what I was going to try he just shook his head and said see you in a few months. I definitely understand it but I always felt you have try new things. You never know what’s going to stick. If you’re not happy then keep on quitting until you find something that you love. There is something amazing about pushing yourself and unlocking levels of yourself in fitness and in your life. Drinking more coffee and sitting a desk more would not have created the monster Grosso Properties is becoming.
It’s all about learning how you learn. Remember the first time you do anything you suck. Then you get better, then when you think you master it, it disappears again. It’s how it is with anything you do in life. Once you understand those cycles and patterns you can build your improvements around it .
Parkour is about efficiency and improvement in movement. How to get around our environment in the fastest most efficient way. Why walk around a fence when you can just vault over it . A simple picnic tables becomes an endless playground. That type of outside the box thinking makes you more creative in all aspects of your life. In business our companies are about efficiency. The goal is to spend more time working on the business than in the business. So just remember everyday you challenge yourself you get better. When you settle and stop pushing yourself that’s the beginning of the end. Just get out there and challenge yourself everyday. You won’t be disappointed.
